Asus Lolliflash TekhSquare review-Camera Flash

Asus launched several accessories on 6th August, New  Delhi, India at Asus Zenfestival Global Launch Event. One of the was the Asus Lolliflash. Funny naming aside the functionality of this particular product is in a lot of questions. Some really like it, and so don’t. An accessory like this might not be a complete must, but can add and enhance a lot when it comes to taking images in low light.

So the Asus Lolliflash is a round device with a 3.5mm jack at the bottom, which is made entirely out of plastic. It is to be noted that it does not connect with you smartphone in any way, not even the 3.5mm headphone jack. The jack is only present there to stick the Lollifash to your phone. If you want you can simply use it while it is being detached from the unit as well. It has an in-built battery that lasts for about 30 minutes. And also it comes with a MicroUSB port for charging the entire unit. On top you will find two LED light, which are of different colors, giving you the right balance of colour you need for doing flash photography.

The Lolliflash can both be used with the front facing as well as the rear camera, although Asus recommends to use the Lolliflash with the front facing camera only. They have a separate unit, which is more powerful and comes with a xenon flash for using it with the rear camera. Overall, as mentioned above the functionality of the Lolliflash is in questions. What I can say is that, it is not really a must. Although you can use it to illuminate your pictures while shooting it in dark. But the direct light will surely show it’s traits making shadows on the back. Now this is something that an average user may not even consider thinking about it, but if you’re shooting photos for a while and embrace good photos. You’ll tend to fall on the negative side of the image.

Overall, I think it’s a very nice add-on to your device. It can illuminate you and other objects in dark, and for $14.99, the price is a little bit steep, although it could’ve been a bit lower. Also, it comes with 3 different diffusers. One is completely white, which is basically used for diffusing the harsh light making the image quite a lot softer. The second and third one are the pink and blue filter, which adds a pink or blue tint to the entire image, while reflecting pink/blue light through the filter.
