The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus recently shook the entire smartphone industry with their OnePlus One. It offered some of the most high-end specifications bundled with CyanogenMod at a price that would just be a dream for the flagship owners. The OnePlus one was literally checking all the boxes like a geek’s dream. Of course not everything was as creamy as it sounds. And as a result of this unbelievable price to specs ratio, the OnePlus One started selling like hot cakes. Due to the fact that they were new in this industry, and it was difficult for them to cope up with the demands, they came up with a new ‘invite system’ where you needed an invite to purchase this device. And some sort of word started floating that buying a OnePlus One is a big challenge, and there were thousands of memes around the internet on exactly this. Nevertheless, millions of people went ahead to take the pain of getting an invite and buying it. Even though I won’t call it a success since they never really met the demands and their production scale was smaller, even though they had a big boom in the sales making them quite a big company capable of expanding their production.
The OnePlus One featured a 5.5-inch 1920x1080p display to begin with. Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-Core Processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, and Adreno 330 GPU. It also came up with a 13-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 4K videos. And a 5-megapixel front facing camera capable of shooting 1080p videos. All of this was unveiled back in 2014 at a price of $299 USD. With this price to performance ratio, it literally gave a run to other big name smartphone manufacturers. Although, in 2015 OnePlus launched their second iteration which was supposed to be a great device just like the OnePlus One and people were holding high expectations and expected it be as massive success just like the One Plus One. Although, the OnePlus Two wasn’t a massive failure, in fact it again was able to set the bars just like the OnePlus One, but definitely it wasn’t anything up to our expectations.
#What OnePlus Two Offers?
OnePlus Two was launched last month back in July 2015 and it offered some decent specs. Although it didn’t blow up the entire industry, what I personally feel that it could’ve been a lot better considering the fact that the OnePlus Two was coming from a company who was behind the OnePlus One.
The OnePlus Two features the same 5.5 inches of 1920x 1080p FullHD which is told to be much brighter and better. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection so in terms of drops and scratches you are all set, unless and until you decide to run it over by a Panzer or something. It also comes with a much more improved 13-megapixel camera on the back, capable of shooting 4K videos and 5 megapixel of front-facing camera, which is also capable of shooting 1080p videos. As much as I would’ve loved to see the pixel bump on both of the cameras of the OnePlus Two, it’s fine if they can shoot some amazing photos. And I won’t lie but after looking at the samples shots of the OnePlus Two, I really feel that it is indeed an upgrade from the previous generation. Apart from that, the OnePlus Two also comes in two different variants. With two different RAM and Storage options. The lower end model comes at a price of $329USD and it comes with 16 GB On-Board memory and 3 GB RAM. While the higher-end variant comes with 64GB of onboard memory and 4GB of RAM at a price of $389 USD. Both of them are very similar in terms of performance, but we highly recommend you to get the higher-end model i.e. 64GB ROM/ 4GB RAM variant, so that you don’t run out of memory very quickly.
#Why OnePlus Two is a Big Disappointment?
Now coming towards the question i.e. why do I think that OnePlus Two is a big disappointment. So first of all right away this is something that I want to make clear that, yes looking at the price the OnePlus Two is offered it definitely worths the money, but then OnePlus always had set the bars so high that OnePlus Two seems like a total disappointment.
#1 Snapdragon 810 v2.0
Snapdragon 810 was already having a bad reputation in terms of heating, and still OnePlus decided to use the Snapdragon 810 with the OnePlus Two. And for the sake of marketing, they did some modifications making it Snapdragon 810 v2.0. Booyeah!! Now you have a brand new processor. But from some early sources it has been mentioned that again the Snapdragon 810 v2.0 is having the same old heating problem, definitely not as much as the regular ones, but yeah the heating thing is still there with the OnePlus Two.
#2 Invite System
And then my second most gripe with this smartphone, and this is only most possible reason why people are moving away from the OnePlus Two, is the invite system. The invite system has carved out the market like crazy. In less than a month, it has turned each and every other individual into a spammer and affiliate marketer.
#3 Lack Of NFC
And now my third most gripe with this device is the lack of NFC. Currently at this stage of advancement almost every other manufacturer is trying to incorporate an NFC chip to endorse mobile payments and other such good things that could be done with the help of NFC. Sadly OnePlus doesn’t really bothers about the NFC part and decides to keep the OnePlus Two isolated from this technology. Something that hits me the most is the fact that OnePlus One already had NFC chip, then why not the OnePlus Two?
#4 Lack Of Quad-HD Display
And then comes my fourth most gripe with the OnePlus Two. Now it isn’t exactly a failing point for OnePlus Two like others mentioned above, but I feel that they could’ve surely worked on this display of the OnePlus Two. A 5.5 inches of 1920x1080p panel is all cool and indeed it looks absolutely beautiful, but considering the fact that OnePlus is calling their new iteration of the smartphone as a ‘Flagship Killer for 2016’, I believe that having a QuadHD display would’ve rather helped.
So overall, again as I mentioned. There is nothing wrong with the OnePlus Two and since OnePlus already had set the bars so high with the OnePlus One that now, we kinda expected the OnePlus Two to be a lot more than what it is right now. That being said, if you are planning to buy the OnePlus Two, there is nothing wrong with it. But if you have a mindset of buying a Flagship Killer for 2016, then you might really get disappointed considering the fact that there are already some flagships out there having offering much better hardware than the OnePlus Two.
On that note, you can also check out few of the new upcoming devices, that can really be a good alternative for the OnePlus Two, considering the fact that you don’t have to wait in the queue for buying those other equally valuable device.
