Holding a strong grip in the smartphone market in South East Asia as well as growing steadily worldwide. And launching industry’s first 4 GB RAM smartphone, Asus made a dent in the smartphone industry. The Taiwanese technology giant, Asus launched a new lineup of smartphones in the Asus Zenfone series mainly focused on the camera, the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. It comes in two different variants/size, i.e. 5.0 inch ZE500KL and 5.5-inch ZE550KL.
With some obvious great camera, it also packs in some decent specifications like 2GB RAM, 16 GB onboard memory, 2070mAh and 3000mAh for 5 and 5.5-inch variants respectively. The display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 protection, which makes it practically invulnerable to scratches and very much resistant to light to medium knife strokes. In terms of camera it comes with 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel front camera, both blessed with Asus PixelMaster technology. The Rear camera comes with the Laser autofocus system which was first seen on the LG G3. This new focusing system helps the device to not only focus on the subject in very less amount of time, but also all thanks to the strobe of lasers it can also focus on its subject in extreme dark environment. And it happens to be the Laser Autofocus system which inspired Asus to name this model after it.
So taking a look at the specifications first. These smartphones come in different colour variants. Which includes Pure Black, Ceramic White, Glamour Red, Glacier Grey, Sheer Gold and Aqua Blue. All of these new colour shades not just only gives a variety of colour options to choose from, but also let’s you customise your device up-close to your own personal liking. In terms of performance, it is powered by 64-bit Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 Processor which is clocked at 1.2Ghz and 2GB RAM. And the performance on this smartphone looks quite promising on paper.
It also comes with 720x1280p HD display, although not having a FullHD 1080p screen was a little bit disheartening. But true to its promise the screen to body ratio is quite good to look at. Asus printed its name both on the front upper panel and on the back. I would have liked if they had branded the word just once. I don’t know about others, but that’s just my personal opinion.
Who doesn’t likes a matte finish? Yeah, Asus did it right with Zenfone 2 laser by giving it removal back panel as an option, which is also available in the matte finish to give it a premium device look.
Taking a look at the back panel, and it seems like Asus has borrowed some ideas and design look from LG. Its volume rocker key is just below the camera. It has 13-megapixel primary camera equipped with dual tone led flash and 5megapixel secondary camera for good looking selfies.
Okay! now comes the main part the camera with a laser, sounds cool right? After all it is the feature that the phone got named after. The laser helps in focusing(autofocus) on the subject really fast as compared to other smartphones minus the laser facility for taking quick clicks. We still don’t know about the image quality but it felt quite nice and accurate.
Overall the two variants of Asus Zenfone 2 Laser with its premium good looking design felt really nice in hands. The laser autofocus looks very promising and in my opinion it is quite comparable to something like LG G4’s laser autofocus camera. It’s great that Asus picked up the right hardware and put it all up together rightly for a budget market who are interested in having an exceptionally great camera. Although I personally would’ve loved to see a Plus or an upgraded version of the Zenfone 2 Laser for a bit more extra cash for the premium market.
